    Acquainted With Grief

There is a made-up part of the New Testament narrative that we sort of accept and then move on with the story. It has to do with Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph. Virtually everything we know about Joseph comes from the synoptic gospels. He was a carpenter, which necessarily meant he was a rugged man. He had a wife and was raising five sons and at least three daughters (Matt. 13:56 “… and His sisters, are they not all with us?”). We don’t know how old he was when Jesus was born, but somewhere between Jesus’ bar mitzvah at age 12 and the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry 18 years later, Joseph died.

Among the deepest griefs that people experience are the deaths of close family members. All of us know this from experience. It’s part of life to lose parents and siblings. In the nature of life, we expect to outlive our parents, and we expect our children to outlive us. We can let the professional psychologists and grief counselors unpack this. My point is that grief accompanies bereavement, and the closer the relationship, the deeper and more painful the associated grief.

For the sake of clarity, I’d mention that no one experiences grief when their car is stolen, their house burns down, or they lose a job. It’s painful and can be frustrating or can even cause anger and resentment. But not grief. At least, not normal or healthy grief. After all, “stuff” can be rebuilt or replaced. If someone is emotionally attached to their possessions, that’s a different problem.

The narrative that we’ve probably all heard is that Joseph was quite a bit older than Mary, and that’s the reason he died first. Some have suggested (allegedly based on Jewish tradition and first-century Roman culture) that he could have been 40 or even older, and Mary about 17 when they began their engagement. We know that Jesus was about 30 when He began His public ministry, so if Joseph died just before then, he could have been about 70, considered a fairly ripe old age in those days. There is, of course, not a shred of evidence for this age gap between Joseph and Mary. I suspect it was invented to take the edge off of Joseph’s decease. After all, we rather expect elderly people to die, and they had Psalm 90 before we did.

But I would submit that their culture, like ours, would have a problem with a 40-year-old man taking a 17-year-old girl as wife. It makes much more sense that Mary and Joseph were close in age, maybe just a few years apart. If this is true, then Joseph may have been in his early or mid-30’s when he and Mary took the family to Passover in Jerusalem (Luke 2:31).

If they were about the same age, we can zero in on Joseph’s age by considering the age of Mary. One tradition says that Mary died in AD 43 and another in AD 48, but we have no way of confirming either date. Both Polycarp and Papias lived in the greater vicinity of Ephesus in western Asia Minor, the location to which the apostle John is said to have fled at about the time when the Romans destroyed the temple in Jerusalem (AD 70), allegedly taking Mary the mother of Jesus with him. This, to me, seems unlikely.

Luke most probably wrote his gospel between 55 and 60 AD. It seems fairly clear from his own testimony and internal evidence that he interviewed Mary, since he disclosed things that only Mary and Joseph would have known firsthand (Luke 2:51). Per Psalm 90:10 and an outer limit of 80, I’d suggest it reasonable to believe that both Mary and Joseph – if about the same age – were born about 20 BC and Joseph was younger that 50 when he died. Luke interviewed Mary when she was about 75 – not unreasonable.

Carpentry in Jesus’ day was risky and rugged. They did lumberjacking, stone masonry, heavy construction – and they did it all with shoulders, backs, and relatively basic hand tools. There was no OSHA and probably not any real building codes. As we know, the tower at Siloam collapsed and killed 18 men (Luke 13:4). The tower of Siloam may have been part of an aqueduct system or a construction project that Pilate had begun. This was hazardous work.

In addition, Nazareth was a hotbed of simmering resentment against the Roman occupational government. The Romans thought the Jews were dogs, and the feeling was mutual. In 4 B.C., the Roman general Varus crucified 2,000 Jews, and there were mass crucifixions during the first century A.D., according to the Roman-Jewish historian Josephus. And of course there’s the incident mentioned in Luke 13 about “the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices,” a well-known atrocity of that day. Life for young blue-collar Jews in those days was hazardous.

My point is simply to support the idea that it is more likely that Joseph did not live a long and full life. I think he died in his prime, and his death was a shattering experience for Jesus. God the Father knows what it’s like to lose a Son in the prime of life. Similarly, God the Son knows the human grief and pain of losing His father, also in his prime. Is it possible that some angry Roman soldiers decided to “make an example” of a few Jews and got carried away? Is it possible that a 17-year-old Carpenter apprentice and His 35-year-old father went to work, and a construction accident snuffed out the life of the elder? Both of these scenarios are possible – surviving history does not shed any light. But to me, either seems more likely than the story we’ve received, that elderly Joseph “died of old age.”

And either seems more comforting. If one of us loses a parent, sibling or child due to tragedy, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus has personally felt our grief. He didn’t watch others experience it, or read about it somewhere. He has experienced it. As the first-born son of Joseph, and as a “miracle child” besides, He was undoubtedly VERY close to His earthly father. I personally cannot imagine how close they were or the very special bond they shared. To have that bond suddenly shattered …. well, use your imagination. It does not matter WHAT you may be going through. The “man of sorrows” has been there, and He understands. Completely.

The following is an excerpt from the book Already Compromised by Ken Ham and Greg Hall. I’m not sure if this is original with them or if they’re quoting another source, because this reminds me of something I saw years ago, and I’m thinking it was by C.S. Lewis but I can’t verify it. Regardless, it merits consideration. WordPress fights me on the formatting, but the quoted material begins:

Ken Ham: A story is told about Satan calling his emissaries of hell together because he wanted to send them to earth and aid men and women in the ruination of their souls. He asked , “Who would go first, and what would be the strategy?”  One said, “I will go.” “And what would you tell them?”  Satan asked. “I will tell them there is no heaven.” And Satan said, “They will not believe you, for there is a bit of heaven in every human heart. In the end everyone knows that good will triumph over evil. You may not go.”

Then another came forward, darker and fouler than the first. “If I send you,” Satan said, “what will you tell them?” “I will tell them there is no hell.” Satan looked at him and said, “No they will not believe you, for in every human heart there is a thing called conscience, an inner voice which testifies to the truth that not only will good triumph but evil will be defeated. You are not to go.”

The last creature that came forward was more diabolical than them all. Satan said to him, “If I send you what will you say to men and women that will lead to the destruction of their souls?” And he said, “I will tell them there is no hurry.” Satan said, “GO. You are the one.”

Already Compromised by Ken Ham and Greg Hall, pp 74-75

I’m seeing lots of YouTube presentations by church leaders who should know, to the effect that after the rapture, people can still be saved during the “tribulation period.” Better think long and hard if that’s your strategy, and also better think long and hard if you suggest this possibility to your lost friends or family members. “Today is the day of salvation,” as the scripture says. When God sealed the ark, and when Lot left Sodom, there was wrath and devastation and no survivors. YOUR DECISION ABOUT YOUR ETERNAL DESTINY IS TIME-CRITICAL. Yes, I’m YELLING!!! This stuff really matters!

    The Still, Small Voice

The account of Elijah hearing the “still, small voice” is in 1 Kings 19. He had enjoyed (he thought) a tremendous “revival” in Israel when he defeated and destroyed the prophets of Baal and Asherah on Mount Carmel. After that mountaintop victory came a valley of depression, when he convinced himself in a period of apparent self-pity that he was the only faithful Israelite left. The revival was shallow, Ahab and Jezebel were still ruling and they wanted to kill him. Gloom, doom and misery.

I won’t try to stretch this from its historical context to apply it to us. Maybe there are lessons regarding the church and political cultures in America. It’s generally thought that Elijah’s departure might be a “type” of our anticipated deliverance in the rapture. I don’t know. It may not matter.

All the typology aside, there’s a valuable lesson here; in fact, several. First, God is still in control. We probably know this, but we need to believe it. Rock-shattering wind, earthquake, fire – God is not “in” them: He USES them. He is bigger and stronger than they are. Second, God was not at all concerned with Ahab, Jezebel, or their plot against Elijah. Nor is He the least bit concerned about any of the kings, queens, dictators, tyrants and presidents who have come on the scene since then. Like the wind, earthquake and fire, they function only within the limits God allows.

Finally, we need to get past the chaos, noise and distraction, and listen for His still, small voice. He may still have a few things to tell us before we leave. Maybe He will remind us of obvious things. Maybe He will speak to us of the things nearest and dearest to His heart. Maybe He has a word of hope or encouragement for us that only He can speak. Maybe He wants us to tune out the cacophony and distraction of the world and just – for a brief period – give Him our undivided attention; so He can have us all to Himself.

The world is characterized by Bigger! FASTER!! LOUDER!!! In these closing moments, God may have something else in mind for His children. Be still before the Lord – really listen – and He may have a word for you.

    The Time to Worship

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

    Ephesians 6:13-16 NKJV (emphasis added)

This passage is commonly used to promote the image of the Christian as a combat warrior, prepared and going off to do spiritual combat with the enemies of our souls. And that’s valid, but there’s another application – a view relevant to these end times, because it speaks at the beginning of “having done all.”

We who anticipate the rapture have fought the good fight. We have done all we can do. We have grown up in all things in Christ. We still have our armor on and we may still need it, because the enemy may continue to harass us or attempt to plant doubts in our minds. But we’re not engaged in active combat, except to the extent that we’re engaged in active worship (which is a form of combat also).

I should note that this also points to a pre-“trib” rapture, for reasons the casual reader might miss. First, it speaks of withstanding “in the evil day.” This suggests and is conceptually connected to verse 16 of the preceding chapter. We are admonished by Paul to “make the most of the time, because the days are evil.” He is not pointing to the future days of wrath, but to the present evil days we are currently enduring. Second, the Christian warrior in his armor is victorious. He has finished his course and kept the faith, and he now properly anticipates the return of his King, and the receipt of the crown Jesus has for him.

Some believers, sadly, disqualify themselves or deem themselves unworthy. Others may feel such love and loyalty for their lost loved ones that they choose to remain, thinking they can win some souls to Christ. But for whatever reasons, some will choose to remain on earth, and the “Beast” will be given authority over them, as well as everyone else on the planet. It will be granted to him “to make war with the saints and to overcome them” (Rev. 13:7). These saints will escape with their souls, but they will be overcome. Again, this is the aischynō believers, NOT those who have “done all.”

“Soon – very soon – we are going to see the King,” as the song goes. I woke up this morning and YouTube was lit up with videos made by lots of folks who are convinced that this is “IT!” – we are literally just moments away from our departure. Now is the time to worship. I expect the Teki’ah Gedolah on Sunday. While I still hold out hope that family members and friends will be converted, even at this late hour, this seems like an appropriate time to suspend the “Christian activity” in the world, and just center heart and thoughts on Jesus Christ. If we’re still here when these fall feast days pass, we can re-calibrate and resume our efforts in the world.

But for the next few days, at least for me, it’s time to dial back on worldly activities and all the rest, and simply rest in Him in the spirit. There’s really not much in my life that can’t be safely deferred until Tuesday, if “Tuesday” there be. In the meantime, we remain profoundly thankful in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for each of us.

I hope and fully expect to see you soon.

    The Excoriation

I’ve been reading anew the Olivet Discourse. To try to understand the context from a different perspective, I read Matthew 23, which is what immediately preceded Jesus’ lengthy comments on the destruction of the Temple and His return at the end of the age.

It’s hard to read chapter 23 without cringing. Jesus’ withering rebukes to the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy are probably the harshest things Jesus ever said to anyone. Of particular interest was that His invective was not directed against the oppressive Roman rulers (known for their cruelty) or against the tax collectors (also fairly nasty) or even the civic rulers. Jesus delivered His harshest rebukes to religious leaders. These were the ones who meticulously followed the Law of Moses.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the first warning Jesus gives in the Olivet discourse is a warning concerning false teachers who would deceive His disciples. This is anchored in the third Commandment: “Thou shalt not take (literally ‘carry’) the Name of the Lord in vain.” This is the unforgivable sin of the Decalogue. “The Lord will not hold him guiltless, who carries His Name in vain.” (Exodus 20:7) Murder, adultery, theft … all can be atoned for, but there is no forgiveness for those who do evil in the name of the Lord. When Jesus asked them, “how can you escape the condemnation of hell?” (Matthew 23:33) it was a rhetorical question, and they clearly understood the answer: they could not.

They were egregious hypocrites while claiming to represent the Lord, and it was for this very thing that the scribes and Pharisees were rebuked. Seven times, Jesus repeated the litany: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!” His hatred of the sin of hypocrisy is intense. Superficial, external righteousness on display, but inwardly it was a different story.

This is, for us, both a warning regarding our own behavior and a caution regarding religious leaders. Perhaps those in leadership are more prone to hypocrisy than the rest of us. Truth be told: one become a “leader” as soon as someone starts following him. You become a teacher when anyone starts listening to you. So at least we should be mindful that our authority comes from the Source of our message. A “holier than thou” attitude is a stench in the Lord’s nostrils. So is false or superficial piety.

For those who may not have thought much about it, now is a good time to turn off the social media, TV and other distractions, and quietly self-examine for hypocrisy. Romans 12 might be a good place to start. And once again, a caveat concerning your favorite religious leaders. They might not be your friends.

    Time of Jacob’s Trouble

This is another area where the fertile imaginations of some of our “prophecy experts” create enhanced narratives which go beyond Biblical revelation. The line may be fuzzy, but we need to maintain clarity on what the scriptures say and be aware of what may be incorrectly inferred, even when those inferences come from the “experts.”

Ask now, and see whether a man is ever in labor with child. So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor, and all faces turned pale? Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.

‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘that I will break his yoke from your neck, and will burst your bonds. Foreigners shall no more enslave them. But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.’

    Jeremiah 30:6-9 NKJV (emphases added)

This is the only place in scripture where “time of Jacob’s trouble” appears. It appears with a child-bearing motif, and with King David governing “the house of Israel” (see Ezekiel 37:24). It appears to be a time of release from bondage, which strongly suggests that the people are living in faith, not in rebellion or spiritual adultery. It also appears to be a time of national distress. Many of the themes also appear in Joel chapter 2, which I encourage you to review. As you are no doubt aware, Joel 2 is the passage cited by Peter in Acts chapter 2 and seems to connect these Day of the Lord events to the Pentecost season.

There are several passages of prophetic scripture that refer to King David. Some writers/scholars have suggested this is really referring to Jesus, and it’s possible that Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment. But for passages such as Ezekiel 37:24 and Hosea 3:5, it appears that David means David; that he is resurrected and has a role in the end-times reconciliation between God and Israel.

I see two reasonable possibilities for what this “time of Jacob’s trouble” might mean, and when it might occur. First is the anguish and travail currently being endured by true Jews in the middle east, and most especially in Gaza and the west bank. We’re still in the “times of the Gentiles” and the culture and politics in the land of Israel are driven by Gentiles.  I believe there are true Jews in the land, in the State of Israel, in the west bank, in Gaza, and in many of the surrounding countries.  These Jews – regardless of location – have two things in common: all are oppressed and suppressed minority, and all are ignorant of their true heritage.  But not for much longer.

In a natural birth, one body is removed and separated from another, and I think something very similar is about to happen in the middle east.  As the genocidal horrors increase, I believe God will separate the true sons of Jacob from the larger population and bring them to a prepared place of safety in the midst of the land.  Remember, “the land” is not the narrow strip currently claimed by the modern State of Israel.  It’s the land from the Nile to the Euphrates, so the “midst” could be in modern Jordan, in Iraq, in Saudi Arabia … who knows?  Petra has been suggested.

It is also possible that the time of Jacob’s trouble will be when Israel is dwelling peacefully in the midst of the land and they are attacked by Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. Contrary to the assertions of some, Israel is not being punished. Also, this is not a long or protracted time of tribulation, not the “3½ year great tribulation” that (some assert) wraps up Daniel’s 70th week. As explored rather exhaustively in previous posts, there is no “3½ year great tribulation” in scripture. This is a made-up “fact” needed to make some fatally flawed end-times scenarios seem plausible.

Here’s what I expect: on the day of the rapture, there is also the resurrection event described in Ezekiel chapter 37. At this time, living Jews will also be regathered to the land, as described in Ezekiel 36:24. These are people throughout the world, many of whom may not even realize they are descendants of Jacob. It will NOT include most of the “Israelis” currently living in Palestine, who identify as Jews but are actually Gentiles – perhaps Turkish Khazars or maybe descendants of the ancient Carthaginians. This regathering may be miraculous and nearly instantaneous (consider Acts 8:39-40) or it may take several days or even weeks. When it’s complete, Jesus will send His envoy, the rider on the white horse (Rev 6:2) who will confirm His covenant with them, and this confirmation will be the initiating event of Daniel’s 70th Week (Daniel 9:27).

The confirmation will include the sealing of the 144,000 described in Revelation 7:4-8. Under King David, the people will dwell in the midst of the land God granted to Israel. With God’s lavish grace, the land will bloom as never before, and the ancient towns will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 36:10). This will be during the first 3½ years of the final seven, while the rest of the world is receiving the judgments of Revelation. This is referred to in Revelation 12:6 –

Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

    Rev. 12:6 NKJV

The land flourishes under God’s blessing and protection. Near the end of this period of time, as the rest of the planet is crushed under the judgments of God, a military alliance is formed in the land of Magog with the intention of moving into the last fertile land area on the planet. This invasion could be the “time of Jacob’s trouble” but, as we read above, “he shall be saved out of it.”

I can only guess at dates. Hopefully this year, but I’ve been saying that since 2009 or probably earlier. If the rapture occurs on the upcoming Feast of First Fruits (late April 2025) – as good a day as any – then the Magog invasion would be in the fall of 2028. This is speculation, and for those who are believers, it’s really just academic. The bride of Christ will be raptured, the aischynō believers will be right behind them, and we will all be “on the mezzanine” before any of these things happen on earth.

The night is coming when no one can work. Let’s take the Bible seriously and be ready when Jesus comes.

  • Anakypto Afterthoughts

He was despised and He was rejected; a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. He was despised and we did not esteem Him.

    Isaiah 53:3

The question pops up fairly frequently: How can we be happy in heaven, knowing that our loved ones are in hell? It’s a question laden with emotional appeal. We can feel it. We’ve all prayed for lost family members and friends. The trumpet sounds, we leave and they remain on this sin-cursed planet to suffer the fierce wrath of the Dragon (Rev. 12:12). And then they die without Christ and are eternally separated from God. No reprieve, no “second chance.”

We have a problem because our lost friends seem so nice. Okay, they don’t “get” Christianity, but they do the best they can. They never hurt anybody … mostly. We have a standard and they measure up well.

In The World We’re Leaving Behind I explored this a little bit. We’re seeing a bit more of the truth of my exploration every day. We are ALL people with veneers. That “veneer” is simply civilization in the social sense. We know how to get along with each other, and it’s important to us personally that we do. But that social veneer is breaking down, and this is what I mean by “the rise of the Karens.”

We’ve probably all seen videos of people displaying simply outrageous social behavior – stuff that was unheard of just twenty years ago. One example among several (I won’t post the link, but you can search for it) – a woman went into a Pizza Hut, ordered a pizza and paid for it. She ate half of it, brought the other half back, insisted that there was “no sauce on this pizza” and demanded a complete refund. The Pizza Hut employee refused the request, and this disagreement turned into a physical fight in the parking lot.

REALLY?? Well, yes. This woman has about lost her veneer, willing to trade what little dignity she has for twenty bucks. She’s not alone. What we’re seeing is the way she, and many others, have always been on the inside. The “old nature” has been muzzled, but when the muzzles are removed, this is what happens. This is the manifestation of the “body of death” about which Paul lamented (Romans 7:24) and from which we Christians have all been delivered.

For those left behind, the muzzles will also be removed and the internal “wretched man” will be revealed. They will go into Daniel’s Seventieth Week, survive as long as they can, and then die and enter eternity without any restraint on their true nature. In their core beings, they despise Christ and they despise those who love Him. In other words, what you see from your lost family members, friends and neighbors is all an act.

It’s not a malicious act; they mean well. They may even be fooling themselves. But it’s still an artificial and external display that contradicts their true self. The true self is sin and rage and self-exaltation and contempt for true righteousness, but it’s all UNDER RESTRAINT. The influence of shared social civility is a gift – an extension of God’s common grace. As His grace is withdrawn and His judgment advances, we see less “common decency.” After the trumpet sounds, civilized behavior will be a fading memory and men and women will become more and more savage.

SARCASM: “But never fear! Into this social morass will march 144,000 Jewish Billy Grahams, and they will win an innumerable number to Christ.”

No, it won’t happen. The “Four Spiritual Laws” are of no interest to a raging Karen. She just wants her money back, dammit!

When Jesus was here, He was not given the benefit of any doubt. He was not benignly ignored. He was not tolerated or humored. He was not “that harmless clown from Nazareth.” No, they knew He was serious and they DESPISED Him. They loathed Him. They plotted His murder – read the scriptures. And this response to Jesus and His claims has not mellowed over the two millennia since He was gloriously raised from the dead and ascended to the Right Hand of the Power. He still pricks the hard hearts of the unbelievers in our world, and they still hate Him for doing so. They just don’t say so … at least not yet.

Most people still try to be nice. But that’s about to change. And it may be difficult for us to see people we loved and trusted who, as it turns out, have betrayed our love and trust. We thought they were open to the gospel, but they were just being polite. At the end, every secret will be revealed. The thoughts and intents of the inner man will be fully disclosed. When every façade is removed, we will see the unregenerate as they really are. No lies – no deception – no illusions. It seems heart-rending to think of our family and friends being among them. But in that day, our hearts won’t be rent.

    Online Legacy

I began blogging on March 4, 2007 on Blogspot, and started a second blog on WordPress about three years later.  Not surprisingly, I’ve written lots of posts on many different topics.  The questions I’m answering with this post is, “Which are the posts that address and clarify the most essential issues? Which posts would I most like for people to read?“

This is really not very hard to answer.  I would hope that everyone would check out these six:

Reconciliation –  looking squarely at the meaning of life
What Is the Gospel? – an uncluttered and jargon-free view of the essential message
Mad at God  –  Why some refuse God’s offer of reconciliation
But … Do You Love Him?  –  a critical element of salvation
Adamantine Hearts – why nobody gets saved after the rapture
The Awakening Blast – For many Christians, the events following the rapture are academic

The most critical issue is understanding the gospel of the Kingdom, which is God’s initiative in allowing us to be reconciled with Him. I hope that these items clarify this issue. If someone rejects God’s offer of reconciliation in Christ, they can at least understand what they are doing. My intention is to cut through the fog of misinformation offered by organized religion and point clearly to what God is saying.

It’s an often quoted observation by Russian author Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn:

This was the legacy of Lenin, Stalin, and the other leaders of Soviet Russia. It will be the epitaph of the United States. Clearly, if we would repent – personally and corporately – this country could still be saved, because God is still gracious. But we have hardened our hearts, and the divine help we need will not be forthcoming. The U.S. will continue its descent into a festering morass of sin, corruption and unthinkable horrors. This is just the beginning.

Who would have ever thought, even ten years ago, that we’d be reading the kind of headlines that are commonplace today? How did we get from Leave It To Beaver to this in just sixty years?

Solzhenitsyn told us. We forgot God. Oh, we still “went to church” and did some religious stuff. Celebrated Jesus’ birthday every December and so forth. But we forgot the “covenant with our eyes” (Job 31:1) every time we turned on the TV. We’ve relegated Romans 12:9 to Christianese talking points and Sunday School lessons, not lifestyle choices. Maybe Jesus Christ was Lord on Sunday mornings, but how was His Lordship expressed during the week?

We have become superficial, and God is judging this country. Politicians can’t save us; our government is crushing the people it purports to serve and protect. We have devolved from a Constitutional Republic, to a democracy, and now to a sort of regional dictatorship. The next stop is global technocracy.

I think this is where we get off. I am not bemoaning the erstwhile “United States” or really blaming anyone. It’s too late for that anyway. Despite the glowing promises of national renewal under a new political administration, the promises are hollow. The Titanic has struck the iceberg; in fact, the miscreants on the bridge backed up and struck it again. Now it’s time to head for the lifeboats.

Jeremiah pleaded with the people of his day to leave the city, surrender to the Chaldeans and preserve their lives. Most would not listen. They remained in the city and they were destroyed. Similarly, Jesus warned the people of His day that when Jerusalem was being surrounded by armies they should flee. Leave the “safety” of the city and save their lives. Most did not listen. Again, they remained in the city and they were destroyed. Today, the “city” is global. The ONLY safe place is in Christ. The rapture is imminent and the true believers will see Him face to face. Will you be among them? Or are you fooling yourself? Do you even care??

I’m just one feeble voice, but I’m adding my voice to many others who are also appealing to families, friends, neighbors … even complete strangers. Stop trying to placate God. Take God, judgment and eternity seriously. Repent, make restitution, be reconciled. Look at your life in the context of all the wonderful things God has done for you, and be thankful, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thess. 5:18). Abandon all your bitterness and arrogance and self-righteousness.

We have (and this includes many professing Christians) given God a pittance of our lives, while allowing the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things to choke any influence of God’s word in our lives. Genuine love is patient and kind. It is not arrogant or rude. Love is a primary fruit of the Spirit. If you are impatient, unkind, arrogant and rude, you are unfruitful. Do you even care? Or are you repulsed by my “judgmentalism”?

I’m not judging, criticizing or complaining. I’m just pointing out what is obvious. All the horrible things that happened in atheistic Russia are happening here. What is the cause? Are there lots of things that cause this sort of societal collapse? No, there is only one, and while we may protest that “In God We Trust” is our motto and we have churches and Christian bumper stickers and all that other superficial stuff, the root cause is that we have forgotten God! We made up a false “god” we worship, a god who enjoys our “worship services” and religious claptrap, and is perfectly happy as we stumble arrogantly and ungraciously through life pretending to be “good people” and ignoring him. Our lives are defined by this idolatry, and almost all of us are ignorant of it. Our consummate virtues are “niceness” and “tolerance.”

God is not mocked. The fruits of our last-days idolatry will be visited on all who choose to remain recalcitrant. The day of recompense is drawing VERY near, and there will be no second chances, no make-up opportunities, no excuses. We have been warned. PREPARE!

Why did I expect the rapture and the ‘dry bones’ resurrection on this past 3rd day of Tishri (on or about September 18th)? And now that that date has passed, do I have a new conjecture?

Basically, my initiating conjecture is that when the seven feasts are ultimately fulfilled, the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ will begin, and that points to the final day of the fall feasts, or Shemini Atzeret.

The “bad guys” are talking about complete implementation of their plan of Global Corruption by 2030. I don’t take dates or data points from the bad guys, or the Simpsons, or “predictive programming” or even Strongs numbering.  But I think 2030 is still a very likely year. So I am looking at Shemini Atzeret in 2030 as a candidate for the beginning of the Millennium.  According to HebCal, that will be October 19, 2030.

If Daniel’s 70th ‘week’ is precise rather than just offered as a close approximation, then the seven years would be 2,550 days (including a leap month).  So I counted back 2,550 days from October 19, 2030 and that’s this coming October 26th. This gives us a possible date for the “confirmation of the covenant” which, according to Daniel 9:27, is the initiating event for the final seven years.

That’s one possibility for the date of the confirmation.  Another possibility (less likely in my opinion) is that the years are simply Jewish calendar years; that is, from any date in any year to the same date the following year would be a “year” regardless of the number of intervening days.  So the ‘week’ ending on Shemini Atezeret in 2030 would begin on Shemini Atzeret this year.  That date would be this coming October 7th.  So either October 7th or October 26th could be the day that the covenant is confirmed and Daniel’s 70th ‘week’ begins.

The entire Seventy Weeks prophecy has a context and a scope.  It pertains to “thy people and thy holy city” which is to say, the Jews and Jerusalem.  Further, the whole point of the prophecy and its stated objectives are:

    1. To finish the transgression,
    2. To make an end of sins,
    3. To make reconciliation for iniquity, (LXX has two provisions for iniquity: “blot out” and “make atonement”)
    4. To bring in everlasting righteousness,
    5. To seal up vision and prophecy, and
    6. To anoint the Most Holy.
    Daniel 9:24

We’ve all heard stories about how “The Antichrist” makes a “seven year peace treaty” with Israel.  I very seriously doubt it.  Rather, I’m fully persuaded that Jesus the Messiah confirms His covenant, and that many of the details are in Ezekiel 36 and 37, which I discussed in yesterday’s post The Peaceful People Who Dwell Safely.  Suffice to say, if the covenant is confirmed in October, the rapture should happen first.

But why September 18th?  Because of Zechariah 8:19.  This prophecy says: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘The fast of the fourth month, the fast of the fifth, the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts for the house of Judah.”  September 18th is Tishri 3 and the seventh month fast of Gedaliah.  An interesting play on words (and as you probably know, there are puns in the Bible) is that the Last Trump at the feast of Trumpets is called the “Great Blowing” or Teki’ah Gedolah.

The true Jews properly anticipate national restoration.  What we see with the Zionist “State of Israel” is a satanic counterfeit; a so-called regathering, but the people regathered are Turkish Khazars, NOT true Jews.  Jesus warned us twice about “those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.” (Rev. 2:9, 3:9)  See also the work done by Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson of Answers in Genesis where he did actual genetic research and brought receipts:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tgzyWJzLfY

I believed there could be an “Awakening Blast” for true Israel in mid-September. That did not happen, but this does not preclude that event happening at any time. I still expect that the sealing of the 144,000 will be part of the confirmation of the “covenant with many” in October.  King David will be resurrected and will shepherd the people in the wilderness.  Many details are provided of explicit, literal promises that will be fulfilled.  These are the people referred to in Ezekiel 38:8-11.  For as you probably know, there are a lot of “prophecy teachers” who are saying “the tribulation begins when Russia invades Israel” but they don’t have any specific group living peacefully.  That difficulty is resolved if the peaceful people are established at the beginning of the ‘week’ and the Magog invasion occurs about 3½ years later. Also, demonizing Russia and casting Putin or Russia as Gog/Magog has its own set of fairly significant problems.

Anyway, that’s why I thought September 18th was an extremely probable date for our departure.  Since we’re still here, we still have the opportunity to extend God’s offer of reconciliation to our families, friends, neighbors and so forth. The night is coming when no man can work. We could still have the Awakening Blast in October. October 7th could be significant. As pointed out by others, the “wedding ring eclipse” is on October 14th. You can examine the evidence and determine for yourself whether you think this might be significant.

    Are you ready?

P.S. October 7th WAS significant, as we now know. With violence erupting in Gaza, it’s been suggested that this was the “first shaking” of Haggai 2:6. The next date of “high expectation” is December 7th, which is Kislev 24 on the Hebrew Calendar and could be the “second shaking” of Haggai 2:21.
